So my friend told me how easy it is to order photos from Flickr to be printed at Target.
I decided to give it a shot.
This is how it went.
Placed order. Super easy! Just picked a set and moments later got an email saying they'd gone to print.
At about 9:30pm, I decided to go pick them up at Target. The store closes at 10, but the photo center closes earlier, so I was out of luck.
Went back to store around 10am to pick up photos. My email confirmation said $1.60. The girls at the counter said $3.60.
I showed them the email and they shrugged, saying it scanned at $3.60. But I could come back at 2pm and talk to a manager.
Didn't have time to go back that day.
Went back to store in the afternoon. No one at the counter. No one around to ask if I should wait. Stood around for five minutes. Grumpy woman returns and says "Can I help you?" in an annoyed tone.
I explained to her that I had come to pick up my photos, but there was a price discrepancy. She scans and says "It's 3.60."
Me: Well, my email confirmation said $1.60. There was a discount through Flickr.
Her: No, there are no discounts. 18 photos, 20 cents per photo.
Me: Well, I'm not paying more than what my confirmation says. If you don't honor the price, I'll get them somewhere else and you will have wasted money printing them.
She proceeds to take the photos out of the envelope and move towards the shredder.
Me: I'm not coming back her. I'm going to blog about it.
The blogging thing definitely didn't impress her. She shredded my photos.
I kinda wanted the shredded photos, but I left the store, calmly. I was angry, but amused at the same time. What kind of customer service is that to haggle over $2 and lose what could have been a lot of business in the future? Considering I'm a photographer and all. And Target is right near where I live.
So I went home, twittered about it, and sent a reply to the original email confirmation of the order. I didn't have much time, so kept is short and sweet. (I also didn't know if it would get to an actual human.)
I just watched a Target employee shred my photos after I refused to pay more than $1.60 (total stated in confirmation) for my photos.
I received a great reply from customer service at Flickr!
I'm sorry that your experience at the Target store was so unpleasant. I have resent your order to the store and notified the Target lab employee that you in fact are owed the $2.00 discount that you received online. If possible please also print your confirmation page to show a supervisor. I recommend filing a complaint with the store's management. I have also asked the Target lab employee to call you when your order has been reprinted. Again, I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Note: I haven't received a call from Target yet and haven't had a chance to stop by the store again. But no matter what happens, I'm appreciative of the quick response from Flickr. I'll update when I get to the next step!
