Hey! Did you know there's a Venice in Los Angeles? Complete with canals?
On Wednesday my friend Sean and I did the "Venice Canals and Abbot Kinney" walk. I went to Venice and never even saw the beach! But here are some of the things I did see...
Started out by wandering through little streets and paths and bridges and checking out the canals.
One gentleman was rowing his daughter in a little boat. We saw them at just about every turn.
There are some old houses still around, but lots seem to be getting replaced by bigger, fancier ones...
There are also a lot of ducks and signs asking people to please protect them. And there's a sort of...duck park...too. And one house that I'm betting houses a crazy duck lady.
And apparently they show "row in" movies along the Linnie Canal too! Last weekend they showed Young Frankenstein and on September 6th they'll show The Party. Peter Sellers! I wish I could go, but I will be back in NY.
After the canals, we wandered over to Abbot Kinney Blvd. There are lots of shops and galleries, restaurants and bars. We didn't go in all the places suggested by the little guide, but here are some of the things we saw.
The colors, textures, and shapes of Venice also struck me!
It was a beautiful walk with plenty to look at and photograph. In a weird way, it brought me back to the summer trips to Cape Cod in my childhood. And it was great having the cool ocean breeze - even got chilly for a little while!
Check out the rest of my photos from the walk!
